OZEKI KOTOOSHU

A beautiful portrait painting of Ozeki Kotooshu as he makes piles of
hand stamps on shikishi for his fans and supporters before the May basho. He
does this after practice and before the bath, and you can see part of his
off-white practice mawashi. In the background, his tsukebito takes more new
shikishi out of boxes for the Ozeki.

When Kotooshu finished stamping all the shikishi, he turned to the artist and
stamped her drawing. The first time, the stamp wasn't dark enough, so he tried
it once more. The oil in the painting keeps the ink from looking solid. But
you can see the Ozeki's two hand stamps.
The painting is oil and graphite on archival grey pastel paper.

This painting is a collector's item. Price on request.

OZEKI KOTOOSHU
The artist made this drawing while sitting at morning practice during the May 2007 basho. She was able to include the former shisho (left) who sadly passed away shortly after that. Kotooshu is in the ring, surrounded on the clay by Ozeki Kotomitsuki and the former Kotonowaka, who retired from sumo at the last minute during the May basho in order to become the new Sadogatake Oyakata. His father-in-law was forced to retire on his 65th birthday, which occurred during the basho and the transition had to be made immediately.

Original drawing, price on request.
